Get a Placentia Library Card
Placentia Library District offers several library card options based on how you plan to use the library and the identification you have available.
Full Access Library Card
Get full access to library services, including:
- Check out books and other physical materials
- Borrow Library of Things items
- Access eBooks, audiobooks, databases, and other online resources
- Use library computers and printing services
- Reserve group study rooms and study pods
- Manage your account through the online catalog
California residency is required.
To apply, visit the library in person with:
- Valid photo identification, and
- Proof of your current California address dated within the last six months
Digital Services Library Card
A Digital Services Library Card is available to California residents who need access to the library’s digital resources and technology but do not have acceptable proof of address available for a Full Access Library Card.
Includes:
- Libby, Hoopla, Palace Project, and other e-resources
- Library databases and online resources
- Online catalog account
- Public computers and printing
- Group study room and study pod reservations
Does not include checkout of physical materials or Library of Things items.
Apply in person with valid photo identification. A Digital Services card can be upgraded to Full Access by providing acceptable proof of your current California address.
Temporary Library Card — Ages 18+
Placentia residents age 18 or older can register online and receive a temporary library card number immediately.
A Temporary Library Card:
- Provides access to digital resources and library computers
- Is valid for 90 days
- Can be converted to a Digital Services Library Card by presenting valid photo identification in person
- Can be converted to a Full Access Library Card by presenting valid photo identification and proof of your current California address
Apply Online for a Temporary Library Card
Bring a valid photo ID, such as:
- Driver’s license or state identification card
- U.S. passport book or passport card
- Consular identification card
An out-of-state U.S. driver’s license or identification card may also be accepted when accompanied by acceptable proof of current California residency.
Proof of address must show your current California residential address and be dated within the last six months.
Examples include:
- Utility bill
- Bank statement
- Current automobile insurance
- Lease agreement
Electronic proof of address is also accepted.
Applicants under age 18 must visit the library with a parent or legal guardian.
The parent or guardian must:
- Be age 18 or older
- Present valid photo identification
- Provide proof of current California address for a Full Access Library Card
If proof of address is not available, a Digital Services Library Card may be issued instead.
The child or teen must be present when the card is issued. Only a parent or guardian may obtain a card for a minor.
