Library Director Message (October 13, 2025)
Dear Placentia Library District Patrons,
As many of you may have heard, Baker & Taylor, the largest supplier of library content, software and services to public and academic libraries in the U.S. announced plans to shut down their business, with closure by January. This development presents a significant challenge for libraries, including ours, as Baker & Taylor has been a primary source for acquiring books and other reading materials for years.
The closure impacts not only the availability of new books but also the timelines and processes we rely on to keep our shelves stocked with the latest and most requested titles. We understand how important timely access to a diverse range of reading materials is to our community, and we want to assure you that we are actively exploring solutions to mitigate any disruption.
To address this, we are evaluating alternative vendors such as Ingram, Amazon through the Business Books for Libraries platform, Brodart, and other trusted suppliers to maintain a steady flow of new materials, to allow us to continue offering a rich, diverse, and up-to-date selection for all ages and interests.
While this change poses challenges, our commitment to serving you remains unwavering. We appreciate your patience and support as we adapt to this change.
Thank you for being an essential part of our library community.
Respectfully,
Jeanette Contreras
Library Director
